Census Data

British Columbia was again the third fastest growing province in Canada, increasing 5.3% from 3,907,738 in 2001 to 4,113,487 in 2006.

The population in the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) grew by 6.8% between the 2001 and 2006 census, a higher growth rate than the provincial average of 5.3%. This growth rate also exceeds that experienced in the Greater Vancouver Regional District (6.5%) and the Capital Regional District (6%) between the census years.

The District of North Cowichan population increased by 5.4%, from 26,138 in 2001 to 27,557 in 2006. This rate of growth is consistent with the Provincial average. In contrast, some of the highest rates of growth occurred in other Vancouver Island municipalities with populations greater than 10, 000 and include Langford (19.2%) and Courtenay (14.5%).
