Who do I call about recyclable material?

The Municipality’s curbside recycling is collected by a contractor. Questions can be directed to them at 250-652-4414. Since they are directly involved in the curbside recycling collection issues, they can normally answer your questions the best. The CVRD Recycle hotline (250-746-2540) can also help direct you with other recycling issues.

What goes in the recycling bags/containers?

All recyclables can be placed into the yellow bag or a clearly marked container. See our recycling information on this website, or check the back side of your collection calendar.

Where can I get recycling bags/containers?

Yellow recycling stickers for containers (free) and yellow bags ($1.00 each) are available at the Municipal Hall.

Is there a limit on recyclable material?

There is no limit on recyclable material.

Why is there no similar can size limit for recycling?

Recycling is generally much lighter than garbage. Should the container be too heavy to lift it may still be possible to remove some of the contents by hand, which is not the case with garbage. The recycling contractor will advise you if they require a different container.

What is the status of the yellow or blue recycling bags?

Recyclables that are accepted (see your calendar) can now be mixed together in either of the two bags, or even placed in a can clearly marked as “recyclables”. We no longer issue blue bags. Yellow "recyclables" labels (free) and yellow bags ($1.00 each) are available at the Municipal Hall. Recyclables are more easily sorted efficiently at the recycling depot rather than at curbside.

Why is my recycling day different than my neighbour’s?

The recycling routes are not the same as the garbage pickup zones. Your recycling day is identified by your colour zone and whether it is a “A” zone, or a “B” zone. Your neighbour’s may differ from yours, as he may be in opposite “A” or “B” zone. Recycling is collected on an alternating cycle; normally every two weeks. Your calendar shows which days include both refuse and recycling.

Is recycling voluntary or mandatory?

Recycling is a mandatory program and garbage may be refused for collection should it contain recyclable material.

What is the cost of recycling?

Your biweekly recycling service costs $16.44 plus HST per home per year and is included in the tax bill.

Where can I take a deceased pet or livestock?
